An Italian Honeymoon - Day I

Rome Day I

After an early start leaving the UK we landed in Rome where we were to spend the first three days and two nights of our magical and unforgettable honeymoon. We stayed at the City Hotel, which is literally a stone’s throw from the Spanish steps.

Most of the top attractions of Rome can be accessed easily by foot, but the out-of-scale tourist map supplied free by the hotel was difficult to understand, to say the least. But it did add to the whistle stop tour of this wonderful city, one we would gladly return to.

We discovered the Pantheon using the map, more by luck than judgement, and what a discovery it was. The outside of the building looks as though it has just been excavated from a pile of dirt, with cracks up the sides and vegetation growing from the top of it. However, walk inside and you will feel as though you have walked into a tardis of splendour, so much so, we walked out again to double check.  How such an ornate interior could belong inside this shell of a building was beyond words. Amazing!

The Spanish Steps provided a wonderful photo opportunity for all joining the Piazza di Spagna with the church of Trinita dei Monti with its two towers that dominate the skyline. Don’t forget the building to the right... a museum where the English poet John Keats lived and died.
Lunch beckoned, and a chance to enjoy a three course meal ‘al fresco’ at one of the many eateries to be found all over Rome.

In the afternoon we took a long but very pleasurable walk along the River Tiber, through small market stalls that line the way and onto St Peters Square and the Vatican City (Citta del Vaticano).  The last few hundred yards are the most memorable as you can see everything laid out in front of you.  It’s not until you reach the square that you realise just how large an expanse there is.  Imaging it completely filled with people listening to the Pope is awe inspiring.

An afternoon was not long enough to see everything at the Vatican City, so we had to choose which part to visit.  We decided on the Sistine Chapel, leaving St Peter’s Basilica and everything else for another time.  After a short walk around to what seemed like the back of the Vatican City, we reached the entrance to the Sistine Chapel tour.  On entering, the corridors of architecture, sculptures and decorations were mind blowing and served as a gentle build up to the unforgettable Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel.  The whole tour was an absolutely breathtaking experience.

Then it was back to the hotel to freshen up before an early dinner at another of Rome’s excellent restaurants.  Another three courses later and a romantic walk through the quaint, historic streets led us back to our hotel for an early night.  Well, it was the first night of our honeymoon and we had been up since 4.30am.

Our dream Italian honeymoon continued...

Evolving marketing-On-line versus Off-line marketing by Baz Smith

Whatever happened to good old fashioned marketing?  Well it’s still out there and people running businesses are still making profits, using techniques that have helped them build their businesses in the past.  Things like advertising in brochures, local and national directories, advertising through press releases, billboards, bumper stickers, leaflets and flyers … are all still good methods of attracting customers.
Manage these well and they will still remain profitable forms of marketing.  Another method was Networking clubs, providing a way forward for businesses and individuals to promote themselves … they still exist today.
So what has changed?
Well if you look at it from my perspective, not a great deal, other than technology and the medias used … the basics are still the same.
The 4 P’s are still evident … Price, Place, Product and Promotion still have to be carefully considered.
Price … can still be an issue, but it still remains a fact that it is the value you add to your product or service that is key.
Place … this has just gone universal at a touch of a button, however you do still need to look for niches in the global market where you can fit into.
Product … it almost goes without saying that the days are long gone that you can sell any old product to people that don’t really want it.  The product has to fit the niche you are targeting and again value has to be attached.
Promotion … in some ways has changed the least, you just have to use new methods of media to get your offering and Unique Selling Points (USP) across.
On-line Marketing
Well now it is truly global, with a wealth of information at your finger tips.  Back in its inception did we really, truly believe that the internet could really grow into what we see today.  If we are all totally honest with ourselves, I bet we all had our doubts.
But, here we are and yes the similar principles of old fashioned marketing do still have a place in the new world.  You still have to discover what is unique about you, you still have to write informative copy to use in all your articles, press releases and capture pages.
What’ more, you still have to find ways of bringing people to your shop window, it’s just changed into a virtual one!
However, the biggest change I believe, between the two forms of marketing and the most dynamic, is the emergence of social networking sites. Now I’m sure I don’t have to name them all, you know them yourself … you’ve only got to look to the right of the screen and you’ll see some logos!
To ensure the success of your Internet marketing business you have to be able to communicate and provide value to your followers and friends.
What’s In It For Me? WIIFM
Well there’s a question.  That’s what so many people are governed by these days, and I suppose to be perfectly honest it hasn’t changed much over the years … if anything, it’s just got a whole lot worse!
You see, your every day person in the street is getting more and more pressures put upon their time, money and other commitments … that they seem to be automatically making decisions based on WIIFM.
I have a slightly different view of it all, you see I still fervently believe that …
“The quality of the relationships you have with friends, family and colleagues will ultimately determine the quality of the results you will get in life”
So don’t go around all day making destructive comments or sarcastic remarks, because all these actually do, intentionally or unintentionally, serve no other purpose than to put people down!

On-line gaming-an addiction for the game or is a way for the world to integrate?

Joining and playing on-line games is not only fun but does it achieve anything more for the individual?
On-line gaming has become a social networking phenomenon!
Playing on-line games can and does build a community spirit and camaraderie.  It allows individuals from all over the world to unite in one goal. Whether it’s World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2, or playing Kingdoms of Camelot on Facebook, people are getting together and conversing about the games and even about themselves.  Finding like-minded people with similar interests and simply chatting to one another whilst playing the game.
Kingdoms of Camelot is one social networking game where people have joined in and have ‘virtually’ met people from all over the world, people 30 years ago would not have been accessible.
KoC as it is affectionately known, tasks you to build your city.  As your city grows and you train your troops , your might increases and you are encouraged  to join an Alliance.  Each Alliance member helps one another to build their cities, passing resources amongst one another for the good of the Alliance.  You see, the more combined might the Alliance has the higher it ranks in the list of Alliances, helping to draw more members in to the community.
The Alliance strength is then used to out manoeuvre enemy Alliances and attack them collectively, using tactics passed down from the leaders.
I personally have friends across the globe because of playing these kinds of games, friends I most certainly never would’ve had the opportunity to have the pleasure of knowing, let alone chatting to.
So does playing on-line games help individuals to integrate? I’ll leave you to answer that for one yourself!

Internet Marketing on a budget- Article Writing

One of the easiest ways to kick-start your internet business is to write articles.
When you are trying to make money with articles, the beauty of it is that you don’t really need any previous experience and that you can learn the ropes as you go.  Although, there are some skills that you will need to teach yourself or pick up along the way to make yourself successful. You can’t go in not knowing anything, not learning anything, and still expect to make a good income (or any income at all).
If there are a number of topics that you like, pick the one that you feel would be easiest to start with and then, once that is generating some revenue, you can start another topic.
First, you will need to pick the right product that fits with your chosen topic and write the article accordingly.
Second, you will need to know how to choose keywords that can help you get a good amount of traffic to your site, and get you on those all important first two pages.
Third, you will need to know how to optimize your websites and article for various search engines. Search engine optimization skills will allow you to get high rankings for your chosen keywords, which will help to get visitors and make you profit.
I suggest writing between 6 and ten articles per topic.
Above all though, learn to enjoy writing the articles. The more you enjoy the experience the easier they become to write.

New parents-where has all the love gone?

A new baby can bring so much joy to any home.  But as new parents, you can get so caught up in changing nappies, feeding times and cuddles that it’s all too easy to forget to be a ‘couple’ as well.  All the excitement and warmth of romance between you and your partner may seem like a closed chapter in your life…  but this doesn’t have to be so.  A few romantic touches, carefully planned into your lives, can reinvigorate even the most exhausted new mums and dads.
Making and eating a home cooked meal together can be enjoyable, as well as ensuring you both get some good food to keep up your strength.  Choose a dish that can be prepared and eaten in stages to allow for looking after baby.
Small, romantic gestures can mean the world to a tired and run down new parent.  An inexpensive gift, a sweetly worded card or simply a thoughtful text can show your partner that you’re thinking of them.
Make a point of telling your partner how attractive and sexy you find them.  Low self esteem, caused by lack of sleep and a life which revolves around childcare, can knock even the most confident of people.  Keep it away by showing how much you care for your partner.
If you feel you can bear to leave baby with a trusted relative or friend, try to get out with your partner, even if it’s just for an hour or two.  Activities like going to the cinema or for a bike ride can seem impossible when you have a baby, so this can remind you how much you enjoy each other’s company.
But if all else fails, when you climb into bed after another busy day (or night) with baby, just make sure you’ve saved a few of those cuddles for each other.
